A police Inspector connected to the State intelligent Bureau of the Nasarawa State Police Command has allegedly raped and impregnate his 15-year-old niece.
Rabiatu Addra,the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) state Director revealed this during a press briefing on Wednesday in the capital of Nassarawa,Lafia .
She explained that an informant made it known to FIDA that the girl was more than once raped by the suspect, who was her uncle.
Rabiatu further said the Inspector had been captured and promised to guarantee that he was prosecuted.
While speaking to the police authorities to ensure a careful investigations, she said FIDA would circle back to the case until a Justice was given.
“On receipt of the information by the whistleblower, FIDA, in conjunction with the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Team, facilitated and mobilised police officers to get the suspect arrested'' . Rabiatu says.
"Our team, with the police, took the victim to a hospital and paid for her treatment but unfortunately she lost the six-month-old baby.
The Kano state Ministry of Justice further covered the bill for a DNA test as a component of the investigations to learn the culprit."
Rabiatu said the victim had been discharged from the clinic and rejoined with her relative.
she added, "We are appealing to victims of abuse to always have the confidence to speak out so that we can render the necessary support to them,” she added."
Struggles to reach DSP Ramhan Nansel, the State Police Public Relations Official demonstrated unsuccessful, as he didn't answer calls and messages sent to him through mobile phones .
