The well-known Osun Osogbo festival for 2022 is set to kick off from August 1st till 29th, in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.
This worship is usually celebrated in August annually at a sacred grove, to worship the Yoruba goddess of fertility, Osun . The festival is believed to renew the deal between humans and deities.
A big tourist attraction, the festival is usually attended by tourists from all over the world, as well as Osun worshippers.
The schedule for the festival include ‘Iwopopo’,the traditional cleansing of Osogbo, on August 1.To be followed by the lighting of‘ Atupa oloju merindinlogun’ ,the 500-year-old six-point lamp which comes up three days after the 'Iwopopo' cleansing of the land.
The event to honour past kings of Osogbo, known as ‘Bibo Ade Oba Osogbo’, scheduled for August 8, 2022.
‘Dida Ifa arugba’, where a young virgin woman (arugba) of a royal lineage, offers sacrifices to the deity ,slated for August 11,2022.
However, the festival will end with the ‘Osun Ajigun’ on August 29, 2022.
